About the Author

Growing up, I went to church on Saturdays. My family biked to Stanford Stadium for every home game. We always packed Lutticken’s sandwiches and sat in the north end zone. When I was 7, I got to watch #7 in his senior year, and Elway became my favorite football player. Other favorites from those days include the great Ed McCaffrey and my favorite kicker of all-time, John Hopkins.

Stanford football has gotten to be so special over the past few years that I decided it was worth the time to write about it. This blog is mostly for my own pleasure, and partly for friends and family. If you’ve found this site and are looking for thorough reporting, you may be disappointed. The posts are not meant to be game recaps. They will vary from stating the obvious to completely ignoring it. However, they will usually pursue a unique angle of interest, and will often include some quantitative analysis. I will use data and mathematics to look at results, rankings, bias, and strategy in ways that are overlooked by most reporters. And even though I love my team, I will often be critical of mistakes involving decision-making and game management.

I currently live on an apple farm in Sebastopol, CA and teach high school math part-time at a local school. My barn is Cardinal red. On Saturdays every fall, I leave my farm and drive to The Farm, to rejoin the spirits and sermons of Saturday.

  1. Your photo caption is only partially correct. It should read “I’m in gray, wearing the Stanford Cardinal superhero cape on loan from David Shaw.”
